How it's done In terms of software, there's a plethora of programs capable of box, extrusion or subdivision modelling, which is what I do. I map in UVMapper and Poser, and render in Poser and Bryce. Although the models here are arranged by theme, there is a clear evolution, from the earliest assemblies of unmapped high-res primitives, through constructions in low-res primitives I made myself (same result, smaller file sizes), to the fully-efficient extruded models I make now. I'm pleased that even the crude early stuff has always sold, because although my technique is now pretty refined, it's the result that matters. 3D is all about the look, because there is literally nothing else. Why here only? Some models are available only here, and not at the broker sites, for two reasons: either they're too unsophisticated to keep in the mainstream but have been requested after I withdrew them, or there's a policy problem. For instance, Renderosity demanded a fee to lower the price of the Nildekker Pilot's Seat, and I won't pay. C'est la vie. An exception is the Alien Worlds project: unfinished and abandoned, but some nice designs, even unmapped, so available here cheaply for those who want them. Enjoy. |
Alien Worlds For a while, I was involved with a plan to animate the classic SF radio series in 3D. I modelled two versions of the space observatory, and some other ships, before I had to withdraw under pressure of time. These are the models, unmapped and untextured. |
